Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery opens

intrinsic-913x913Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery opened this past weekend as the first independent brewpub in Garland. Located in the city’s revitalized downtown area, owner and brewer Cary Hodson and his brother-in-law Casey Vincent converted an historic 3200-square-foot space into a mixed brewpub and barbecue restaurant.

With Hodson already planning a downtown brewpub, he teamed up with local pitmaster Tex Morgan to work retail barbecue into the business model to satisfy Garland zoning laws requiring a food component and to avoid relocation.

Hodson was an amateur homebrewer and the winner of Deep Ellum Brewing‘s 2014 Labor of Love homebrew competition, which inspired and encouraged him to pursue this commercial venture.
